I really like the concept of these books as I need practice in listening to Italian. Being able to read as I listen helps so much to tune in my ears to the sound of the language. Also the stories are fun

Our u3a Italian group read this & found it very interesting- made us get our recent Italian history up to date. The group also found it was well narrated.

  3. Kath KIlburn (verified owner)

I enjoyed this book and it seemed just about the right level for me. Good text and I learned a bit about Italian history too. I did think it was slightly pricey for the length, so next time I’d probably buy on a three for two offer or similar.

We deliberately write less, Kath. The idea is you’ll finish the text (without getting bored and quitting), gain confidence at reading and listening, then step up a half-level for your next easy reader.

That’s what you’re paying for, not the number of pages or words, but the discipline in our writing and editing team. You pay us to write less, because that way you’ll read, enjoy, and hopefully buy the level up, and so be pushed, and so learn faster.

Contra-logical maybe, but we’re students here, as well as teachers. It’s what we’d want for ourselves – a rapid progression through an interesting and pleasurable sequence of graded readers, until, as soson as possible, we’re ready to move on to authentic materials.

This is an enjoyable book. The chapters aren’t long so I could make good progress.

I did find it quite easy to follow but found the glossary for each chapter very helpful.

I listened to the soundtrack first a few times before I listened and read at the same time .
I then tackled each chapter and answered the questions.

This was a good resource for listening and comprehension of both the written and spoken word..
The narrator is very clear with a good pace.

    Thank you

    Philippa

I absolutely loved this book! It embodies an important day both in Italian history, and in the history of Italian women. I highly recommend it.

  6. chris

An interesting read, taught me a bit more about Italian history, and possibly Italian women.
Thought level was just about right.

  7. Patricia

I really enjoyed reading this. An important period in Italian history brought to life. A good level of Italian for me, lots of new words and phrases.

  8. Jan De Booser (verified owner)

A very pleasant story and easy to understand.
As good as ‘La via Francigena’ (but less difficult)!

  9. Shelley (verified owner)

Interesting to learn the history and an engaging story. It also helped me see my level of reading ability ….encouraging, I shall choose a higher level next time.
    Thank you.

I love this little story with history. It’s great for me because I am transitioning from A2 to B1. The descriptions are delightful, an area, as a short story writer (in English) I need to learn (in italian). I have learned new words, too. I love the comprehension at the end of each chapter. More please!!

  11. Wendy Hartnell

I really enjoyed this book. It was very short and perhaps a bit easy for me but I picked up some new words and it gave an insight into an important moment in modern Italian history.

  12. Linda Ann (verified owner)

I found this book very interesting since it tells about the election in June 1946 and with June 2nd being a holiday in Italy I wanted to learn more. It was fun as it seemed like you were sitting next to Marcella and she spoke in such a natural way.

  13. Anna Kucharska (verified owner)

A very interesting enjoyable story, the level was about right for me, pushing me a bit without being too difficult!

  14. Anna (verified owner)

A very interesting, enjoyable story, the level of Italian was enough to push me without being too advanced.

  15. Anita Cummings (verified owner)

An enjoyable and interesting short story by Robert Gamberini about an important day for women in Italy. A personal touch to read about Marcella’s exciting day getting ready to vote for the first time, her views and those of her husband, Antonio
I liked the fact that the chapters are short with a quiz at the end of each, as well as a glossary. I learnt a lot of new words and phrases. It is also helpful to be able to listen/read at the same time – the narrator spoke very clearly and at a good speed, which for me is very important.
All in all, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it for this level A2/B1. Especially good value as I bought it as one of a bundle in the sale!

  16. Carol Re (verified owner)

I also enjoyed this little book very much. Always some new vocabulary to learn and such a lovely but historical story. Marcella has a mind of her own and kept the peace with Antonio by not telling him how she was voting. Another very good read by Roberto Gamerini. Worth reading and listening to as all helps towards our love of learning italian.

  17. Jadwiga (verified owner)

This is a real gem; full of humanity, nicely observed details, a dose of Italian history ─ and as with all ‘easy readers’, it is an easy but instructive read. Bravo! Grazie!

  18. Kathy (verified owner)

I did not expect an easy reader to be so filled with human experience…the beginnings of a day beautifully depicted…..deciding what to wear, how to vote…..describing a woman’s daily life! The author honored the reading student with unexpected word pictures bringing to life an Italian couple we can relate to. Grazie Mille!

  19. Bill Carmichael (verified owner)

I enjoyed reading 2 giugno 1946. It was easy to read, and I liked the story.

  21. July Rice (verified owner)

Cute, interesting story. Short, however – 20 pages – not really a “book”, but worth the reduced price I paid. Altogether a professionally executed text for B level learners. I would be happy to buy more.

  22. anne.heritage (verified owner)

Great for reading and listening comprehension. Interesting and with good vocabulary. I’ve just started level B1 and found the text challenging without being too difficult.

  23. Linda Cooper (verified owner)

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed Roberto Gamberini’s new easy reader. He always manages to make the stories interesting, while giving us a window into the Italian culture. Viva la repubblica and the women’s vote. I learned a bit of Italian history along the way. I strongly recommend this book.

  24. Angela Charles (verified owner)

I much enjoyed the story and was delighted to understand most of it! It’s encouraging to be able to see the progress that is made with continuous learning.

  25. Ruth Stephens

A lovely little story. Very clearly narrated and easy to follow. More, please!
