This is a fun story that includes a lot of useful vocabulary. Before purchasing the book I listened to it. There were parts that I could not understand in the audio version, so I decided to buy it because I was curious about the plot and wanted to grasp what I was missing. Now I can read along while I listen and follow the interesting journey of the protagonist in his search for genuine and authentic Slow Food. I think the B1/B2 level rating is accurate, though maybe leaning more towards the B2.

This has been for me by far the most taxing book to read, with seemingly a lot of unfamiliar vocabulary in its content. However, I have really enjoyed the challenge that it presented me with and it is a book that I think I will re-read to properly cement the new words in my mind. It’s great to realise that there is so much more to be learnt at each level.

I chose this ebook as I am a journalist and thought it would be interesting to meet some of the characters and learn some of the terms used in the industry in Italy. It was and I enjoyed it. Somehow the writer managed to inject humour into the story and the characters, the editor who pretends everyone’s good idea is his own and the journalist covering gastronomic events, all rang true. Also little details like the old dog were fun. I did not find reading it hard and I could answer the questions but when It came to the listening I was a bit out of my depths. Still after listening several times I could more or less follow the story and I know that it is just a question of keeping at it. I have been learning quite seriously for more than 18 months and I am a bit depressed that I still cannot understand when Italians speck at a normal rate. I think these ebooks with the audio conent are an excellent way to familiarize one’s self with the language. Possibly best not to punch above one’s weight and to start with the very simple texts and work one’s way up – which is what I’ll be doing – it looks as though there is plenty of choice.
