What a great story! Having the audio is good too. I listened first to see if I could get the gist of the story and then read the text and was able to guess some of the vocabulary that I hadn’t come across before. These are much more fun than just sitting studying. A great way to improve listening and reading skills. Just wish they didn’t end so soon. Grazie!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I use a form of active listening with these e books, by repeating the audio until I can write a summary of the chapter, in Italian, of course! Then I have my paragraph checked by a speaker of Italian. I try to finish one chapter every day and I feel my listening and comprehension skills are improving every week. And all of this happens while I get to enjoy a story. Thanks Easyreaders.org for making such great books!

I have read this delightful story about five times so far and love the feeling that I am actually reading in Italian. I can picture the expression on the faces of the characters and feel their frustration through the comedy of errors. The vocabulary and grammar are reenforced throughout the story. Great contribution to my slow but steady language learning.

Amusing story. Women might recognize the character who is really incapable of listening. Poor Mrs Malentesi! Great listening, too.

I bought this book maybe 2/3 years ago and never read it as Italian got too hard for me, and I gave up! However, driven by this desire to learn Italian I am trying yet again. I loved this book as a) I like crime stories and b) the story was amusing. I download the audio to my iPod and listen while gardening, travelling on the bus or when my husband is watching sport on TV (which is often!).

Enjoyable story, with small twists and turns before the final outcome. Interesting vocabulary and good composition as the interview/story unfolds.

I’m using these easy readers as a way of getting back into Italian. I’m finding them very useful and I now have the confidence to re enrol for classes. I enjoyed reading
Cena con delitto. The story is fairly easy to follow and there are a enough new words to make it interesting. I’m looking forward to reading the other books I’ve purchased.

Part of my morning routine is to listen to an Easy Reader chapter. They are interesting and constructed to help you progress in your particular level. For me, at my level (A1-A2), there are words and phrases that I know. The ones that I don’t know are used in the context of the story so that I am able to usually figure out the meaning. *****

I have purchased 9 e-reader for my students in Bristol, CT. These have been great additions to our language study. There are a ton of activities teachers/learners can create using these books as a vehical for grammar/vocabulary and culture study. I highly recommend these readers!

I purchased this book along with others as part of the 3 for 2 offer that’s currently available.
Nice story with some good dialogue and a glossary for a couple of unfamiliar words. I found it quite straightforward to follow the text and it was good to be able to hear the story being read with correct pronunciation.
I’d certainly recommend anyone who might be a bit uncertain as to whether to ‘take the plunge’ or not to have a try and I’m sure they would not be disappointed with the result.

These books are a great way to not only learn a language but also revise reading and listening to the native speaker, both equally important, I have bought several. This book is very funny and has the usual very helpful segments attached. Find your level, e.g. A1, B2 etc. and you wont be disappointed.

  13. Karen

The language builds on previous chapters as you go. I like the soundcloud that you can access.
Easy to understand and learn from.

  14. Valerie Scullli

Loved this book. I agree with all the previous reviews. I keep going back to read it

I have purchased this book after two years learning Italian. The pronunciation is very good. I have placed the mp3 on a CD and listen to it in the car. Works very well. The story is thrilling, and with humor. By reading and listening, first apart and then together it really helped me learning.
I really can recommend this book!

It is a very good purchase. The book is very suitable for beginners, it has audio so you can read the story and listen to it or vice versa. It is funny and easy to follow. I only think it is a little bit expensive.

  17. Jean

I found this a really good way to learn Italian for the following reasons:
    1. The story was intriguing and funny
    2. I liked the fact you could hear the book being read so excellent for pronunciation and also you could read the book and answer questions to ensure you had understood the text.
    3. A very good way to learn Italian – not didactic and run at your own pace.
    4. It helped me realise I had more knowledge of the language than I previously thought and yet pushed my because of new vocabulary and grammar.

  18. Fran Norris

This was the first book that I purchased and read. The characters were intriguing, il signor Malintesi was so sure he knew what was going on, I needed to know what was going on!! Thank goodness for his wife. Not only did I enjoy the story but it was at a level that I could follow and understand.

  19. Stefan

I was a bit hesitant when I first tried these books but they are brilliant for practising reading and what’s very gratifying is when you find you’ve understood most of a book. Cena con delitto has a good story line and what you could call a feminist theme. On the practical side, lots of good vocabulary and grammatical constructions.

    A wonderful story with a surprising end…. I loved reading/hearing this book.
Good pronounciation, not to fast, not to slow.
I have learned a few extra words for this summer in Italy, Thanks!
