Fun story and great way to help me learn Italian.

  2. Helen McCloud

Absolutely perfect. Great story with just enough difficulty for beginners to feel the stretch.
A must buy for all learners starting out.

  3. Anna Newton (verified owner)

Just perfect for a beginner. A simple story, which you can understand even if you do not know all the words. It is divided into short chapters which are good chunks to work with – I listened to each a few times, than found the meanings of the words I could not work out (Collins dictionary online) from the context, and then listened again.

  4. Sue Stanford

A simple, amusing and interesting story. Perfect to get my ear into “Italian listening mode”.

  5. Jim (verified owner)

I bought this book because I needed help with my listening. The short chapters were just the right length for me. I could listen to one chapter several times before reading the text and then identify the words I did not know. I found it helpful to have Google Translate, with words or phrases that I was uncertain about, open alongside the Italian text whilst listening to the text for the third time. Overall I feel that this book has helped me find a way forward with improving my Italian listening skills.

  6. Claire Hood

I got this to use with my U3A beginners group – the story has enough interest & humour to keep them engaged. As I am supposed to be a level or 2 above I listened first without the transcript & found I could understand the clear speech but still found some new words I had to look up, so useful for me too. Am looking forward to moving onto the next bbok.

  7. Ann Bodkhe

I really didn’t understand that a “chapter” was going to be between 7 and 11 sentences long. I thought for £7.99 I would be getting a dual language reader, not 8 paragraphs of Italian text and a similar number of translation. A very poor value, indeed.

    • easyreadersorg

Yes, Ann. That’s why we have a free sample chapter, which you can download and check out before making a decision to buy.

A1 level ebooks are intentionally very short, as they are aimed at people who know almost nothing of the language.

If your level is better, you could download free sample chapters of higher level ebooks until you find something that might match your idea of value for money.

Or ask for a refund. If, despite my efforts, you bought something unsuitable for you, I would be happy to repay you, or offer an ebook which is appropriate to your level and learning preferences. If you’re unsure, just email me your level and I will be happy to suggest something suitable.

I started to read “Colpo di Forbici” , but when I wanted to listen to the audio on Soundcloud, I have a problem, as I live on the edge of a broadband area, it is very slow, and the audio is not continues.
I am enjoy reading, but would also like to listen to the text.
    Any suggestions welcome.
I have emailed Daniel, and mentioned my problem with broadband.
    Thank You.

I found the side by side Italian with English translation a little off putting to start because it made me lazy so…I printed it out and put the English translation behind the Italian original. Doing this enabled my to read the original and try to work out what was going on, identify what I did not understand the then refer to the English translation rather than using a dictionary and maybe not making sense of the story because I had got a different meaning or usage. I enjoyed the story and it made learning a very pleasant experience, I will certainly buy more – thank you Daniel for another clever way to help adults learn and enjoy another language.

  10. Deborah

Really useful to see texts side by side. It does help the way I need to learn. The problem I find when I am doing homework or similar is finding a source or translation that can be trusted. I have faith in this product that it will be correct. I have made many a nonsense phrase using a well known search engine translation app!!

  11. Mary-Teresa

I ‘bought’ this while I was studying at Madrelingua (5 star school) in November as a little rest from i compiti! It was a good read in a predictable way, and for a lazy person like me the arrangement of the pages, with the english translation following the italian was perfect! A quick check at the end of each page – instead of the sneaky look across at a side by side text worked well for me! I also liked finding that there was some unusual new vocabulary for me, eg ‘tatuaggia’ ‘scappatelle’ – to be deduced from the context, and I thought the style in the english translation flowed along very naturally. Thanks, Daniel.

  12. Anne Houghton

I enjoy the short stories and find they are helping my vocabulary expand. I enjoy having the audio to listen to and my pronunciation has definitely improved as one of my night class friends recently commented that I have an ear for the pronunciation! I will pass on this link to the other particiants of the night class.

At first I thought these books were a bit short. But after using this ebook for a few days, I realise I was wrong.
I have been studying Italian for a year.
I am now concentrating on reading and speaking. With the parallel text and the audio I can do so much – listening, shadowing, dictation, translation, pronunciation etc. I like the audio which is at a speed where I can hear the words clearly and read along. I enjoy how the paragraphs are numbered so you always know where you are. As a new reader, it is so lovely to read without worrying about looking up words. I will recommend to my fellow italian learners.

  14. Alison

This is easy and fun, with some useful every day vocabulary and grammar. The parallel texts are very helpful and a fun story like this one makes learning less like hard work.

  15. Karen Elkan

Easy for A1/A2 to understand. I love the soundcloud audio that goes with it. It was easy to purchase and to download the book. I have bought several Italian books and love them!

  16. Cheryl Middleton

This book (like all the parallel texts) are just easy and fun and the more you read them the more you get a better understanding of the language. I love them.

  17. Gill

Enjoyed this e-reader, particularly liked the chance to listen to it, I find listening the hardest bit of learning Italian. The parallel text was useful for looking up odd words that I didn’t recognise

  18. Anita

I found it great for my level. There were some new words and phrases to learn. Interesting read. Looking forward to more.

  19. Loredana Brinis

As with all your readers this was a quality product. I teach a group of adults who use your site regularly. They always enjoy your work and they found this reader particularly interesting and enjoyed it very much.

  20. Dot Read

This little book has a simple but pleasing story. It’s told mainly in the present tense and is just right for A1 learners. As an A2 learner, I could understand most of it on the first reading (thankfully!) although the parallel text was very useful for the words I didn’t know.
I think these short books are a super idea, particularly with the English text alongside. I’m definitely going to recommend them to the others in my Italian conversation group!

  21. gene

Enjoyed the story… also loved the way the book was set up… made it very easy to read (and sometimes cheat). I will have to try some others in the future. Thank you

  22. Mary

This story has an interesting set up and uses human interest to keep the reader engaged to find out what happens next. The parallel text allows for quick access to the meaning of new words, too–although it is suggested that one try to read through the Italian-only version first, for two or three times to try and get the overall meaning of the story.
I will use this with my beginning and intermediate students to practice pronunciation and to become familiar with some of the expressions like “si tengono per mano” meaning “are holding hands.”
Thanks for making learning Italian more fun with creative stories like this!

  23. Ed Mason

Very nice story. I could follow along but still had to peek at some expressions and words. Just right for me, especially for word order and sentence structure. These short parallel text books are great, entertaining and a bit challenging.

  24. Art

The format is excellent – Italian with an accompanying English translation. However, as a rank novice student, the level is above me at this time. Now what I need is something along the lines of “See Jane run and Spot is my dog.” However, I look forward to enjoying it in the not too distant future.

  25. Jerome

    Hi Daniel,

This book is really excelent. We read it at my U3A group and I have been asked to ask you to write more of the same(i.e;. set in the hairdressers’) – we would be happy to pay!

Just one question; the final chapter is entitled “il fine lieto”, which I understand, but I just wondered whether it shoiuld be “la fine lieta” ?

    Jerome O’Brien

    • easyreadersorg

My wife says ‘il lieto fine’ is a fixed expression, so always like that. Although a little research online will show you that the word could be either masculine or feminine according to the meaning intended, and that logically, this should be the feminine meaning… Oh well!

  26. Christine Chudley

This is a sweet little story (which is more than can be said for some of those based on a film!) and being A1, is read at a speed unknown to the average Italian. It includes plenty of useful words and phrases. I listened to it using the parallel text system and so was able to cover the fine details with both listening and reading comprehension.

  27. Jane Greenwood

I’ve been learning Italian for six months and this book is an excellent way to consolidate what I’ve learned and stretch me as well. Many thanks.

  28. Elspeth Wardrop

As a first extensive reader to give true beginners, this is encouragingly straightforward, as regards both vocabulary and structures, not to mention a short and easy plot. Its cheesiness is unimportant; I’m going to get a class to try reading it for themselves tonight and see how they get on. Thanks for the free gift. There seems to be a nice variety in the other titles.
I’m trying to get our librarian to buy more from the same series to put on the VLE, but so far she seems to be having problems with the purchase.

  29. Anne Houghton

I really enjoyed this simple story which portrait the nice, simple life in a village in Italy where the owners of a local (and only) hairdresser/barbers helped two of their customers come together and find love. A nice, simple story which was easy to follow.
