Very easy for me to understand but at the same time I find the vocabulary very useful when talking. I liked the story and the CAT!

  2. Lillias Urban (verified owner)

A bit of a challenge for me at this level, especially the audio. Enjoyable though and up to usual standard

  3. Chris B (verified owner)

Nice story of gumption and triumph! Just at the right level for me: Challenging but not off-putting. The accompanying audio was fast for me, but at a natural pace that I’ll need to get an ear for. Will no doubt be purchasing more.

I always try to stretch myself with these books and I found this book did exactly that. Interesting I found that the book appeared to get more difficult the further I got through it, which suited me well. I feel I need to read more at this level before moving on. A good read as usual.

  5. Lynette (verified owner)

    Enjoyable.

Find all the easy readers helpful. Among my primary tools for learning the language. Reading skills have improved. Still working on understanding spoken Italian.

I always find these easy readers a pleasure. For me they are always at the correct level with just the right amount of new vocabulary i.e not too many new words to spoil the flow of the story. Interesting story line but I don’t think I’ll be taking up marathon running in the near future. I agree with Linda – worth buying.

I really enjoyed this book. The story was interesting with an uplifting message. Perhaps I might take up running again! The glossary was useful.

I ‘m definitely not a runner but I really enjoyed this easy to read B1 book. It has a good storyline and despite some useful new vocabulary (isn’t there always) the reading flow was maintained. Linda summarises the book perfectly. I feel it is also important to mention the audio (crucial to learn correct pronunciation); the pace and voice were just right. Stefi? It’s always a delight to hear you read and makes a big difference to the pleasure derived. Keep up the good work.

  10. Janet

I really enjoyed this book. I love the fact that you can listen to the audio and read it at the same time. This has helped my listening comprehension and my pronunciation.

This was pretty much the same pace as recent B1 assessment on my part-time Italian course at a university.
Good story and as another reviewer said, the Soundcloud recordings are not too long (about 2 minutes per chapter), but lengthy enough to require a level of concentration we’d need in a real conversation.
My only improvement would be to replace the grammar related exercise that could be done without listening to the text (eg fill in the missing preposition). The True/False ones genuinely test comprehension.
I’ll be getting more of them for practice (the assessment didn’t go too well!)

  12. Catriona

love these stories. The chapter lengths are perfect for reading/studying when you can steal a few moments of free time. I especially like the audio listening portion available on SoundCloud so you can hear the correct emphasis and pronunciations of the story. Important! Also like the comprehension quiz along with pronouns exercise at the end. A great purchase overall.

  13. Kara Goodwin

Similarly to the previous review, I am an active runner, so this book jumped out at me at the start, and held my interest throughout. In typical easy-reader style, the chapters were a good length to give a challenge but be easily consumable. I was able to understand most of the context without much interruption to look up unfamiliar words (especially thanks to the included glossary), but particularly in the middle was pushed more in my understanding and had to do some verification. I’d definitely recommend this one!

  14. Pat James

Interesting story, wonderful message and fun to read.

  15. Linda Cooper

This is a fun read about a young man who wants to challenge him self upon turning 30. He decides to run a marathon and profits from the wisdom of a much older runner, Who he first dismisses due to his age. He triumphs at the end and learns an important lesson. I really enjoyed the story.

  16. Linda Ann Novelli Thompson

This was my first book that I read from this site. I am a marathon runner and life long runner so this appealed to me. It was interesting and easy to read. I enjoyed this book.

  17. Brian

Great, easy to follow read. Enjoyable narrative, with positive themes.

  18. Linda Ann

Disclaimer… I am a marathon runner so I purchased this because it was about running. I recently re-read it (on the plane to Italy). It is a fun and easy read but there were some words that were new to me. I enjoyed the conversations between the runner and his mentor. The cat added some humor for me and being a cat person I enjoyed this. Worth buying!
