I really enjoyed this book. Lots of amusing dialogue between Galileo and his put upon assistant Valerio. The last chapter was unexpected but really puts everything in historical perspective. The book has also inspired me to find out more about the life and times of Galileo and also his poblems with the church. This is geat for my Italian because it will keep up my motivation.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Russell. We appreciate it!

A very interesting and educative story, written in a very readable style. The language was everyday colloquial and very useful. The kind of language that was lacking in all my study books. I have learned so many new words and expression. Thoroughly enjoyed the read and will return to it some time in the future for revision.

An interesting topic and a rewarding read. I agree it is B1/B2 level. It provided me with some new vocabulary and I shall return to reread and enjoy it again at a future date. The audio was fairly fast at times which is good as it therefore assists with listening to/ understanding Italian conversation at real speed. More exercices would be great.

Just the right level for me. Simple enough to understand the story with elements to stretch me to problem solve and learn new vocab. It’s my first e-reader book. I’ll be getting others no doubt!

I agree with the other commentators that the writing is clear, but also interesting and I found the story introduced vocabulary that was new for me. I enjoyed the pace of the narration – quick enough to stretch my listening comprehension, but not so quick that I couldn’t understand it. Have only been through both the text and narration once so far, but I think it will reward repeated listening/reading without becoming boring.

Mi e’ piaciuto molto questo libro perche’ era come una combinazione di un romamzo ed un libro di storia. Il livello di difficolta’ era giusto per aiutarmi a progedire nel mio italiano ed era divertente da leggere. Mi sarebbe piaciuto avere un facile accesso a una sezione di risposta per gli esercizi presantati. Mi piace molto anche il suo web-site e lo uso sempre.

I found this book very interesting and challenging enough to teach me new words but not so difficult that I couldn’t understand it.

Un mazzo di fiori e una bottiglia di vino per Enrico Maso!

Reading Enrico’s stories is always a delight. His style is so lucid that it is practically impossible to miss the meaning of any sentence even if you don’t understand every word; having read the book once, all you have to do is memorize the new ones, and Bob’s you uncle: The second reading will be plain sailing and unadulterated pleasure.
But there’s much more to Enrico’s writing than mere clarity; he paints vivid pictures, the tales are evocative and the characters always fully fleshed out. Grazie!

Excellent read! Loved it. Just right for my B1/B2 reading level whilst simultaneously introducing me to new vocabulary. Perhaps there could be more questions to answer; maybe some of which could be related to choosing the correct vocabulary to complete a sentence. Just an idea!

A nice story well written so it encourages you to keep reading. I read it over a day in several sessions. Many words can be guessed from the context (then checked to confirm them!) so you can keep moving. Some common words have new (for me) English meaning which is good for
vocabulary (eg l’impresa meaning enterprise, not firm). Some interesting phrases eg giocare d’astuzia = to trick (play shrewdness). Agree with comment that exercise could be more demanding. A good read. I now need to listen to it some more times to help the auditory pathways!

Another good listen/read from author Enrico Maso. I also really enjoyed his Michelangelo e il Mosè and Leonardo in riva all’Adda.
The narration of all these stories is excellent and given at speed and level of pronunciation which testing but a great chance to listen to ‘real world’ Italian albeit with a simplified vocabulary.
These books have made a big difference to my ability to understand spoken Italian.
I listen to each chapter twice before reading it and then listen again.
Enrico is excellent at keeping my interest, his stories are engaging and he introducing new vocabulary in each book .
Don’t take these books as necessarily historically accurate – it is widely agreed that the experiment of dropping things from the tower didn’t really happen, but then again aliens didn’t really blow up the White House in the film Independence day and I still enjoyed it!

A great read! Definitely a little above my level although I was able to understand and enjoy the story before looking up some new vocabulary which was a real confidence boost.
The book is well written, amusing and interesting. Another page turner!

  13. Elumley13 (verified owner)

I found it just challenging enough ! I learnt some new words and grammar. I am level B 1/2 and would appreciate more tests after each chapter. I will definitely be ordering more books.

    Thanks for the recommendation.

  14. Tony Prosser

Very effective and helpful like the other easy readers I have tried. It is not for beginners; I am around level B2 and found it just right for improving my comprehension, which is at a lower standard than my reading and grammar. After listening and checking with the transcript several times I did notice a real improvement in my ability. The story is well written and interesting enough to make the listener look forward to the next installment.

My only qualification would be that I would like more exercises after each installment and they could be more demanding. Engaging actively through them makes a big difference.

It is very interesting story. I knew it but never read in Italian. Grazie Mille Online Italian Club!
