From the Roman empire to the European Union, find out more about the Italians who made their homes in a land which couldn’t be more different from their own. A place of great natural beauty, though with a challenging climate and strange food, a destination that offered them the economic opportunities and stability not found at home, amongst a local population who were welcoming, if at first difficult to communicate with due to the sometimes incomprehensible local accent – Scotland!

Description

An original Italian easy reader, by Sara Paddeo

A ‘diaspora’ is a population that lives somewhere different from their original home, or that of their forebears. Since the late nineteenth century, millions of Italians have emigrated in search of better prospects. By 1980 it was estimated that twenty-five million Italians had made their home outside of Italy, in countries all over the world…

Another really interesting book and I am enjoying reading it.
I started listening to it from start to finish and surprised myself as I understood quite a lot. The level is right for me but still challenging. I will now read and listen and then go through each chapter individually.
The audio, as usual, is clear and at a good steady pace.
Excellent value for money and a great and interesting way to learn the language and history.
I have just bought and downloaded the next book in the series – Italiani in Spagna and look forward to starting it soon.
Many thanks Daniel and Stefania and all those who put this great series together.

As Scottish fan of all things Italian I enjoyed this book. It was read clearly, was interesting & fun. Possibly a little easier than some others supposedly at this level.

I really enjoyed italiani in Scozia. Really I should say I have only read the first 3 chapters but I have listened several times on SoundCloud as I go walking. Sylvia, right Daniel, it is Sylvia isn’t it, who reads the story? She speaks so clearly and at a perfect pace that I surprised myself at how much I understood. A great story as the same thing happened in many countries, including Australia where Italians were put into camps during the 2nd World War.
Thank you for all the interesting stories/ books Daniel, they are certainly a great help on our passionate journey of learning the language I look forward to Italiani in Spagna.

Another great reading! We are so so lucky to have found in Daniel, a person who knows what is needed and liked by a variety of students at different levels.
Always looking forward to see new titles coming up.
Grazie mille a Daniel and all the best to everyone learning Italian and using these great resources.

This book tells the stories of Italians in Scotland from Roman times to the present day. There are artists, including one musician for the royal Court of Mary Stewart who really should have stayed at home, sportsmen, prisoners of war, and (surprising for me) lots of fish and chip shop proprietors. And then there are the more recent immigrants, my favourite being the young woman who found a few pitfalls learning Scottish English. I really felt for her because I notice myself turning up the TV (why does this help?) whenever I look at a Scottish drama series. I should apologise in advance to the Scots who might have problems with my Australian accent, too.

For a B2C1 level, I found this probably a bit easier than I’ve been used to. I would like to think this is because I’ve improved, but I don’t really think so. Maybe. As usual, the reading is excellent – most helpful for the learning process (I hope) both following the script and without it. I look forward to reading other books in this series.

Interesting content and well written. I did chuckle when I read that Elisa had arrived in the UK to improve her English and went to Glasgow! 😀 In my opinion it is pitched at the correct level and I was able to understand most words, it is clearly written to help people beyond beginner level to move on with their learning. The audio too is helpful particularly for the pronunciation of words. I have not yet done the exercises I just wanted to read and listen. but now as I have done previously I will return to each chapter read and listen again, then complete the exercises and check up on anything else I was unsure about. A good learning tool as well as a good read and listen so value for money.
The download process was simple and painless even on my Apple. The email was already there by the time I opened my emails. Saved in several different places so ensure it won’t get lost

Another very enjoyable easy reader. Well-written and plenty of interest, especially for me as I lived and worked in Glasgow for ten years and it was good to hear the enthusiasm for that wonderful city. Very clearly read at a good pace, and there are two useful exercises for each chapter; one a fairly easy comprehension exercise, and one with some other slightly more demanding tasks.

I foud this easier than other easy readers at the B2/C1 level; it is clearly not for beginners but is suitable for anyone with a basic understanding of Italian and wishing to improve it. As always, great value for money, and delivery to my laptop was quick and seamless.
