Description

An original Italian easy reader, by Francesca Colombo

A ‘diaspora’ is a population that lives somewhere different from their original home, or that of their forebears. Since the late nineteenth century, millions of Italians have emigrated in search of better prospects. By 1980 it was estimated that twenty-five million Italians had made their home outside of Italy, in countries all over the world…

I love this book – Italiani in Spagna is full of interesting history facts – Christopher Columbus (was he Spanish or Italian), Garibaldi, Fascism, dictators, – as well as more up to date facts about the difference between Spanish and Italian television programmes. All this makes for great reading!
Quite a few challenging words and as usual it is very well written. The exercises at the end of each chapter helps to reinforce the grammar and structure.
An interesting and challenging (but not too difficult) read and I can highly recommend it. Certainly a book I can listen to many times (without looking at the words).

As always the audio was clear and easy to follow. Very helpful for developing listening comprehension and pronunciation. It was written in an interesting way, describing how Italians have influenced Spain in the past and present as well as comparing the similarities and differences between the two cultures. I found the variety of vocabulary and grammatical structures worked to consolidate my learning so far as well as expanding it. I would certainly recommend reading and listening to this.
