Description

An original Italian easy reader by Giovanni Galavotti

In 1960, the same year that Felini’s masterpiece ‘La dolce vita’ won the Cannes Film Festival’s ‘Golden Palm’, another Italian director, Michelangelo Antonioni, presented a movie which, though it went down badly with audiences, was admired by his peers. Fellow director, Roberto Rossellini, described it as ‘the most ‘beautiful’ film ever shown at a festival’, so it was no surprise when ‘L’avventura’ was awarded the prestigious Jury Prize.

The first part of an existentialist trilogy, the film was shot in the scenic Aeolian Islands, and on nearby Sicily. A group of friends – including Anna, her best friend Claudia, and Anna’s well-off architect boyfriend, Sandro – are holidaying on a luxury yacht. While they are moored at a tiny, uninhabited island, one of the party mysteriously disappears. A search is begun, but the weather begins to worsen…

This re-telling for learners of Italian makes a great introduction before watching the movie itself. Or simply an excellent supplement to your study program!

Buongiorno to all of you! My class and i were quite disappointed about this one, first time ever. Had we seen the film , maybe, the plot would haver made sense. Very disjointed , erratic and the ending left us all with an air/question of of ” this is it?” Must be honest , i really cannot see how this film was a success in those days. Maybe slightly “risqué” and avant-garde ?
Never mind. The Diaspora Italiani in Scozia was a great read and three alunni from Scotland absolutely loved it ! So un lieto fine with this one.
Grazie to Daniel and all of the Team. Great work and so professional.

The ebook faithfully reflects the film, Elvino, which it seems you did well to passs on as you clearly wouldn’t have liked it!

Thanks for the positive feedback, anyway. We appreciate it.

I am sorry to say that I hated this book! Though I understood the text fairly well, I found the story, conversations and events in the book to not be very cohesive. Random scenes and conversations that seem to have very little bearing on the storyline occur. Another big disappointment was the ending….

Guess you won’t like the film much, either, Karen. I hear it, too, has a disappointing ending.

A good read. Although there are words that I am unfamiliar with, I am understanding more and more which is great. I was frustrated with some of the characters- and the ending! Though it is because of my ability to read the story that made it so. Recommended.

Excellent book and audio – I was a bit nervous as it is graded B1/2 and I’ve never ventured past A before. Although there were plenty of words I didn’t know I found that the 8 or 9 words each chapter that were translated together with my level A knowledge made it possible for me to mostly understand what was going on. And that felt so good!

A plus for this book is that I am also watching the film – but bit by bit only after I have worked out a chapter. 😂😂

This book adapted from the movie was a great choice! The drama kept me engaged and reading. Thank you and keep them coming.
