L’Imperatore e i giochi is a great story to read, especially having (almost) completed “La story di Roma (in the History section. There are lots of new words, so a little challenging but very interesting with information about Roman life during this time. The exercises at the end of each chapter are useful. As usual the level is good for me and despite the new vocabulary, I can follow the storyline. The narrator speaks very clearly. I can recommend this book!

I bought this reader to study with my teacher and a friend. The title drew me because of my interest in archaeology & ancient history, but the story itself was really enjoyable. As well as introducing new vocabulary, it offered us details of ancient Roman life we were unfamiliar with. Intrigued by some of the ideas and activities presented, most weeks I put together some background notes to give greater detail on these. While this wasn’t at all necessary, I enjoyed doing it and my teacher & fellow student appreciated it.
As a group, we agreed this was one of the best readers we have used (though we always enjoy them!). I highly recommend it.

The philosopher emperor is well known to me from years of dipping into his ‘Meditations’ , so the subject matter appealed to me. This book is not just an opportunity to read a story in Italian that can be re-read many times without boredom, but it’s also a great place introduction to Marcus Aurelius. He is really is worth knowing about.

This is a great story. The descriptions of the gladiators and their combat against each other together with what was happening among the general populace is excellent. The story became really vivid and alive in my imagination.
I really enjoy the little exercises after each chapter too, challenging my memory about what I’ve read.
I highly recommend this book.
