A very enjoyable and interesting read. I like the way proverbs and expressions are neatly woven into the story. Language-wise there’s plenty to study after simply enjoying the story for its own sake. I loved how the characters were brought to life, not just the students and the teacher, but the gods. Excellent!

Many thanks for leaving a review, Margaret!

Very enjoyable and not what I expected from the title. The myth of Prometheus is told through a high school class discussion. Excellent introduction to the oral presentation pedagogy of Italian high school classes. Now I understand better why my Italian friends and colleagues are able to hold forth at length at the drop of a hat. And there are many good Italian versions of idiomatic sayings too. The story of Prometheus is an added bonus not the central story as one would think from the title.

I really enjoyed the novel way in which this Greek myth is told. it is beautifully written. The language is at times challenging, (but I learned a lot!) as it uses the colloquial expressions of Liceo students in contrast to the middle-aged teacher’s more formal style. The exercises for each chapter are varied and appropriate for B2/C1. It is interesting to see development in the characters and relationships, despite the short length of the text, and the change to the curriculum, by adding Mythology to the Greek language, at the request of the students promises improved classroom discipline through student motivation and direct engagement with their learning. What more could a teacher want!

Wow, this one really stretched me! It was a great story about what happens when a classics teacher allows the students to take the lead. It is rated B2/C1, and I think I must be right at B1/2 because there were some pretty tangled sentence structures and the audio was noticeably faster than the Caravaggio story. Overall, I enjoyed both the story and the challenge, and I’m looking forward to coming back to it in a few months to see if it’s gotten easier.

I found this story engaging from start to finish. The characters were authentic and the dialogue flowed. I could relate to and I loved the setting of the classroom. I didn’t feel like I should keep reading; I wanted to keep reading. It was fun!

Another excellent Italian easyreader. Very well-written and it holds the reader’s/listener’s interest very effectively. I would put myself at the top of the B2 level and found that I could get the gist from a first listening without the text, then follow it in detail whilst reading the text in front of me, understanding most of it on a third listening without the text (I am concentrating on my listening skills as they are weaker than my reading). A particularly useful thing about this easyreader is that it uses a variety of different types of speech ranging from the informal expressions of the school students to the more formal speech of the teacher. The vocabulary is quite challenging, but there is a glossary of some of the most unfamiliar phrases for each chapter; anyway, it is not at all necessary to understand every word to follow the story. It is very clearly read at something close to normal conversational speed. With the caveat that it is not suitable for beginners but only for students from intermediate level upwards, strongly recommended

Greek mythology not turn you on? No problem… this story transpires within a class that is discussing Greek mythology. The fun parts are the conversations that happen between the teacher and the students… so it’s not dry and analytical… but gives the language student the opportunity to experience what could be authentic interactions and be able to learn expressions that can actually be used use in real life.
The kicker is I also learned something about Greek mythology!
This is a fun book that kept my interest while improving my Italian!
