I love your books, not too long and interesting. They are really helping me on my journey to improve my Italian.
I really liked this one, a good plot and interesting characters. I believe your wife wrote it, please let me know of any others that she has written

    • easyreadersorg

Sadly she only did that one, but is doing the audio recording on all our new material and also edits EasyItalianNews.com. She’s a very talented person!

I enjoyed reading this story. It was an interesting story, at my level, and had lots of good vocabulary. I’ve read quite a few of your books and always find them an enjoyable way to take my Italian forward. Thanks!

  3. Jennifer (verified owner)

Really enjoyed reading this story. I started learning Italian a year ago and this is my first novella. Looking forward to reading and listening to a second.

I thought this was a really entertaining book. Even in such a short story there is a proper plot and the characterisation is amusing. There is a good variety of tenses (mainly past historic I think) and although most of it is guessable, even if you can’t translate everything immediately, there are also a lot of useful little phrases which deserve further attention. I have read several easy readers and for me this is one of the most enjoyable.

  5. Chris Clark

This is a good story, which I have really enjoyed, although it is probably a level above where I am at the moment.
I have read a good number of these books over the past few years (I am a slow learner) and I have always found them entertaining and I am sure helpful in my learning Italian journey.

This is a great story, and certainly captures the characters very well. If you like a good detective story, this is worth the effort. It is definitely possible to read this and learn – for instance, the passato remoto is used throughout as narrative, and is not hard to follow, even if you haven’t studied this particular tense yet, and the story is full of interesting expressions, again, that you can pick up as you go along.

  7. Jackie

I am really enjoying this book. It is not too difficult to read though I haveto guess the meaning of many words. I am taking your advice and never using a dictionary. The main character is amusing and the story interesting. It is good to listen to.
Keep up the good work Daniel, I am enjoying learning Italian using the wide variety you provide
    Thank you Daniel.

  8. Pauline Vince

Struggled with this when I bought it in August 2018, so went back a level, but have just read, and enjoyed!, it very much. Great to actually see evidence of improvement.
Thanks for all your tips, they really do help. Reading these books help you learn without stress!

Una storia molto divertente ,grazie mille. So che l’ascolto è importantissimo e i libri mi piaciono. Si può ascoltare e poi leggere e rispondere . Ho comprato un altro libro oggi!!!

    Enjoyed the story.
It is a good level for me. Challenging, especially the passato remoto ,but I got the gist of it ok.
Good to listen to the audio as well.

I have just returned from a week’s beach holiday (sadly not Italy!). Instead of getting stuck into a really good English novel I have worked my way through an Easy Reader Italian book every day. And listened to the sound track over and over again as well. I have come back from Spain (!) with a lot more confidence (and hopefully ability) in my knowledge of Italian. I am thoroughly enjoying reading these books. Even the really easy ones are so helpful in understanding the different ways the Italian language is spoken. I hate studying grammar, although I do realise there is no escaping it at times, but by reading these books I am better at knowing what sounds right. I’m learning a lot with very little effort. A great way to learn. I am off to Italy in November so I have an incentive to continue. Just downloaded this week’s special about Galileo. Not sure I like the sound of that one but will read it anyway!

    • easyreadersorg

I hate studying grammar, too, Jill!! Can’t get me head around it at all, I’m afraid. But reading and listening works well – that’s a big part of how native speakers learn their language….

  12. Helen (verified owner)

Really enjoyed this book as I could understand most of it without translating in my head. Good to be able to listen too as I find listening more difficult than reading. A much more interesting way to learn new vocabulary.

  13. Anita Cummings (verified owner)

A great book! I have enjoyed reading this though it was slightly challenging for me but it is always good to challenge the brain! The story is interesting and I like the characters. The audio is very clear and for me, the narrator has good ‘listening’ voice, thus making it enjoyable. I look at the glossary first, then listen to the chapter – several times – before reading. Finally I read and listen and then do the exercises at the end. I love these easy readers as they are so good for listening, reading, pronunciation and grammar. When I finished the book, I left it for a day and then went back and listened to the whole book and was really pleased when I could understand everything. Many thanks Daniel. Couldn’t improve without you and your team!

    • easyreadersorg

So nice to hear this, Anita! Thanks. I think your focus on listening is an excellent idea. That’s exactly what I do myself.

      Daniel

  14. Pauline Vince

Maybe a little ambitious for me at the moment, so have gone back to an A2 book

  15. Dorothy Despard (verified owner)

This is the first easy reader that I have purchased and I am enjoying working my way through it as part of moving on to the next level after having gained A* GCSE in 2018. It seems to be ideal for that purpose in terms of the new material if offers to me for familiarisation, in particular the past historic and the subjunctive, while aiding consolidation.

  16. Harold Wonham (verified owner)

This is very readable and enjoyable, with a twist to the plot and some interesting characters. In other words, it is worth reading for its own sake and thus any particular points of grammar or vocabulary can be examined at later readings and listenings. It’s a good example of a story which can consolidate learning and boost confidence, so that you feel you can absorb whole chunks of Italian in one go, without particularly analysing them. The audio is very clear throughout. Good varied exercises

  17. Louise (verified owner)

I have only just started to read it. I am actually surprising myself with how well I can understand it. I wish my written and verbal understanding of Italian was as good! I am enjoying the book so far and it is to my standard so I am not finding it too challenging.

  18. Patricia Wond (verified owner)

Unread as yet, I will review in due course

  19. Anna Kucharska (verified owner)

A bit advanced for me, but I’m enjoying it, it’s very helpful.
It’s a great site by the way.

    • easyreadersorg

      Grazie, Anna!

  20. Phil Page (verified owner)

This was a very enjoyable read and perfectly pitched for its particular level. Humorous and highly descriptive, it sustained my interest to the very end. Of particular note was the use of the polite third-person form ‘Lei’ in the conversational parts which, although a little disconcerting at first, turned out to be a bit of fun once I had got my head around it! Ready now to take on a book more firmly rooted in level B2, so if there any recommendations I’d be grateful.

  21. john galie (verified owner)

Just started! My tutor and I use this book. Tutor reads chapter and I translate line by line to build comprehension. I also listen to chapter over and over again that helps. My focus is on your comprehension and pronunciation. Not so much story plot

  22. Meg (verified owner)

Not finished it yet but have enjoyed it so far. Lot of new vocabulary for me but surprised at how much I’ve understood with first reading. Just the right level I think. Good listening practice – I’m not very good at this. Bit worried about Passato remoto but there doesn’t seem to be too much of it so far. Not done much story reading but it carries me along and it’s giving me more idea about sentence structure.

  23. Elsa

This is a great story with a nice little twist thrown in near the end, I really enjoyed reading it. I listened to the first chapter with the intention of hearing and reading one chapter each day but I just had to carry on and finish the book.
New vocabulary and colloquial phrases in here for me and I have found that regular listening is improving my pronunciation.

  24. Philip Quinnell (verified owner)

Another thoroughly enjoyable read. I found this relatively straightforward to understand but what I liked most about it and it is something that I have found in other books as well, is the use of “passato remoto” which is not commonly used in conversation here in ‘Lombardy’ (where I live) and so it helps me to see how it works when I am studying grammar.

  25. Lynda (verified owner)

I have been learning Italian for a few years and even though my reading and writing skills have improved reasonably well my listening skills haven’t. I downloaded this book a day ago and have only listened to the first chapter but I enjoyed the story and thought the audio recording was excellent. Each time I listened I picked up more. Being able to read the chapter after I had listened a few times and to check if I heard “correctly” ( I hadn’t a lot of the time!) was a huge help. I also learnt new vocabulary. I am sure using these books will improve my Italian.

  26. Kathy

I loved this book: Intrigue, new words, a likeable character. It’s so good to read a book that keeps my interest yet pushes me a bit with vocabulary . This book helps to accomplish my goal of continuing to learn Italian… and doing so by having success in reading a book with interesting content.

  27. Nina Rault

Very good listening practice. The story is interesting, but most important for me was the listening, always supported by the written text to check if necessary. For someone like me who has little possibility to visit Italy, this completes the learning experience.

  28. Linda Ann Novelli Thompson

This book made me chuckle. I felt that it was easier than some of the others I read but maybe I was just more familiar with this vocabulary. I liked this book.

  29. Luba Gankin

I really enjoyed this book! The story is intriguing and at the same time it exposes you to many useful words and expressions.
The audio recording is a great help, and I listen to it in my car when driving. It is quite helpful to read, listen, then re-read and re-listen again. I have this book for a few months and I keep re-listen it (alongside with other materials) once in a while. And every time I notice something new, discover new word or expression, pay attention to something else.

I would also like to commend this site for the great free written and audio materials. A lot of efforts were put there, and I am grateful to those who did it!
