A light-hearted read. Whilst I got the gist of the story after listening through the first few times, it was only with further review that I picked up on the author’s humorous quips on detective story clichés.

  2. Lynette

This was a fun read and kept me in suspense through to the last chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for the storyline as well as providing a number of words containing 4 or more syllables to pronounce.

A writer of detective stories undertakes a case as private detective involving her own husband. Interesting story: makes the reader want to know what is going on, and how it will turn out. Curiosity thus stimulated necessarily makes you engage as reader with the language. The language is very accessible: sentences quite short; plenty of dialogue. Just the right length – this contributes to a sense of achievement. Some dictionary work needed to supplement the ‘glossario’, and so it should be; this adds to the learning experience. Very enjoyable experience.

Another good one! As Patricia has mentioned – not too many characters and a quick, enjoyable read. Context helps to understand the new (to me) vocabulary and the exercises are always useful. I now use ebooks as a tool in my Skype lessons; I summarise the plot for my teacher so I can consolidate and practice new vocabulary. We’ll also work through the pronoun exercises together – my weak spot! Great!

This book really grabbed me as it involved a subject that is not touched on in every day life. It kept me guessing all the way to the end and didn’t disappoint. I would like to thank Daniel and his team, as I have tried many different resources over the last 2 years to assist me with my learning of the Italian language and these books have been by far the best in my opinion. I look forward to reading my next book, ‘ Ieri, oggi, domani.’

Il libro è al livello perfetto per me. Ho dovuto cercare alcuni significati delle parole, ma ho potuto indovinare molte parole e espressioni dal contesto. La storia è interessante e divertente. Grazie.

    Loved this cute story!
Can’t believe I can read in Italian well enough to be amused with a comical situation!
Loved the character development and expanded vocabulary to add to my list of new words.
I’ve not been disappointed with any of the books I have bought from Inline Italian Club and this one is no exception!

Very good story, lots of fun and I only had to look up a couple of words, thanks to the vocabulary list.

Nice story, but for a lover of detective stories as I am, the ending was a bit predictable. That is not really important because the point of reading the book is learning italian and that was one more successful step on the way (as it usually is with the books from easy readers).
Keep up the good work guys.

As a lover of detective stories, I found the story interesting and wanted to read on. I particularly liked the short vocabulary list at the end of each chapter and the exercises were a good way to reinforce the vocabulary. I heard the audio for the whole book first. I have now started working on one chapter at a time, reading the transcript and completing the exercises.

An interesting story, especially if you like to read crime novels, then you will learn some useful vocabulary! The audio is of a very good quality, and the possibility to listen an read, read and listen, really helps a lot when studying!
    Defenitely well worth the money!!

I have only had the book for a couple of days. For me, it is written in what I call ‘everyday language’ which is great. I can understand most of it whilst still learning some new words/expressions. I have not read it fully yet because I am still on another but it will be there ready and waiting for me. I do find these books goods, particularly if you progress through the levels.

I really enjoyed this book and just had to keep reading it to find out how it ended. I also particularly enjoyed the amusing twists in the story. Grammatically I can cope with a higher level, but there was still quite a lot of new vocabulary for me to learn. Listening to the text on soundcloud at the same time was brilliant for my pronunciation and for making me concentrate on reading and understanding more quickly.

This book was easy to read but contained vocabulary and grammar at the appropriate level.
The story was interesting and held one’s interest to the last word.
The choice of words and their meanings was appropriately selected.
The QandA tasks are very useful and help one to focus to ensure understanding not just of the overall story but the development of the story.
Well done as always to Daniel and the team.

Ok this is an update on the first review as we have now worked through the text. I have just found another use for the audio (which needs a lot more listening to really grasp) I am trying to improve my pronunciation ( with the help of Paolo on the Skype lesson) I read a page out loud , recording it on Quick time player, and then I replay it and make comparisons with the audio on Sound cloud. It has exposed a few weaknesses I didn’t know I had, a work in Progress

Just received this ebook and needed something fun to read tonight and this fit the bill perfectly! Tomorrow I will listen but today I just wanted to read. Found some new vocabulary which is always great and some expressions to use in the future. The story is fun and I was curious to see “where this was going”. This one just made me smile and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for such a good read!

One of the great things about the ebooks is that students of all levels can work together. My husband and I are at different levels and yet can both read and translate together. You notice bits of vocabulary re appearing which is a lot nicer than rote learning. Similarly it starts to become clear than in many cases, an Italian sentence would be put together differently to English. Because this “just is”, there is no need for grammatical explanations. After a while some constructions start to “sound right” as they would do in your mother tongue. Only when you come to the audio students at a lower level may find it faster, but only need to keep listening supported by the text if necessary.
We are half way through this one and are both enjoying it, learning, and keeping the interest going. There are some nice little amusing lines and expressions too

This little book kept me interested right until the end. It shows how mistaken we can be when we try to play detective. The writers make the story interesting for adults while at the same time writing simply enough to keep the story moving. Lots of new vocabulary and phrases and fun little exercises at the end of each chapter. I love the books published by the online Italian club.
