9 reviews for Zio Ciro e la pizza (B1)

  1. Susan (verified owner)

I began by listening to the book; very well read, lovely clear speech and I understood the gist of the story. I then read the book and understood enough to be able to follow it. B1 is above my level and there were many words I didn’t know but I found the story interesting encouraging me to persevere.

Sounds like B1 is not above your level at all, Susan, as for most people listening is one of the skills that take longest to acquire. Maybe try something harder next time?
Thanks for leaving a review, by the way.

I am really enjoying Zio Ciro e la pizza . I read all the chapters when I first downloaded it (probably not what is intended) and found the story fun and engaging. Now I have gone back to listening to each chapter and then reading the chapter.
I am able to understand it quite well but am learning a lot of new vocabulary.

A fun read with some interesting facts. A little on the short side, perhaps, but the half dozen questions at the end of each chapter are really useful to reinforce learning and comprehension.

  4. Mike (verified owner)

This book was fun. It’s a nice combination of the main story – just who is this mysterious person in Zio Ciro’s life – and a history of pizza – it’s a lot older than we think. The level was perfect for where I am in learning to hear, understand and speak Italian. It challenged me and at the same time encouraged me because i actually did understand more than just the “gist” of it. Keep them coming Daniel and Team.

I have not quite finished this book, but have certainly read enough to find it a very entertaining book. Love it!!!!

What fun! A glimpse into an Italian kitchen and its mysterious containers of aromatic ingredients, the history of pizza with a romp around famous Mediterranean civilizations and Italian nobility, reflexions on emigration to America, a charming trio of characters. Eight delicious chapters with a sprinkling of idiomatic expressions on top of a fairly basic, but colorful vocabulary, just like a pizza margherita!

Whilst Angela seemed a bit slow to realize her uncle was gay, it was another good read and I’m now trying to listen to it a few times following the text. (By the way, all the books are well read.) Now I know a bit about the history of pizza too. I have to say I use these books for a quick read but then read them in detail noting the expressions and tenses used and trying to take the new vocabulary on board. For me, it’s helpful learning grammar in context.

    Sweet story. Easy to understand.

A good fast read, likeable characters, and not too many of them! The language is approachable and keeps the story moving along even before knowing specific definitions. For English speakers, the glossary quickly boosts understanding.
Chapter exercises, too, make the story and its language clear.
    Its like Francesca Colombo lite.
