I’ve been using this with my students to help them practice translation and it’s challenging but also very useful as a teaching aid to illustrate the correct way to translate – i.e. not to do it word for word! Thanks for making this free to download, it’s a wonderful resource

What a great reader – I’ve passed this on to some of my more able students and they loved it!

This is a simple reader, and the audio is online, which helps with pronunciation. An excellent aid to learning Spanish.

Since I have forgotten how to pronounce French, (after 10+ years not using it!) this is a really useful resource for improving my listening and speaking skills. Having the audio helps me to remember how French is supposed to sound (as opposed to my butchered pronunciations!)

This is read at a leisurely pace, certainly not at authentic speaking speed for a native (which it is useful for beginners to listen to, since you need to train your ear to recognise/understand what is being spoken when actually conversing with a native speaker), but this is a useful way for the learner (particularly beginners, or those like me who have forgotten how it should sound) to be able to distinguish and copy the pronunciation of words/phrases.

Since listening and speaking are weaker skills for me, I need to practice this, so the pace spoken by the reader will allow me to grasp the pronunciation and repeat aloud by breaking it down into phrases. So, all in all, a great tool for the job!

Just one little thing, though, the language is a little text-book: e.g. I’m reliably informed that “excitée” has more of a connotation of ‘feeling amorous’ in real-world usage, maybe “avait tellement hâte” would have been a better choice, but this doesn’t really detract from the value of the e-book as a useful resource for improving one’s speaking and listening skills.

Another recommended e-book for your learning repertoire!

An enjoyable story that is interesting for French beginners. Having the English text is very helpful because one is able to compare the differences when translating from English to French and vice versa.

I’m so excited to use these readers with my students! Providing engaging content for students is so important, especially as beginners, where learning in context is so key to language acquisition.

Really useful resource for teaching adults who want to improve their French. I particularly like the audio accompaniment that can be used alongside the book which is available on soundcloud. It keeps the reader interested so that learning new words and grammatical structures doesn’t feel like hard work!

Très interéssant pour les débutants. Il s’agit d’une petite histoire simple et facile à comprendre.

Both Charlotte, in London, and Helene, in Bordeaux, are after the same thing: they want to marry Nick, buy a house, and have children. Who ends up with Nick. To find out you will need to buy and read this little book. (But I felt sorry for Charlotte!)
Not difficult to read; beats reading children’s books; builds up your vocabulary in an enjoyable way; and helps you learn the language structures of French. Not bad for the little you pay for it!
