I have just noticed that in the write-up above it says that there are 8 chapters to read and listen to! But I only have 7? Have I missed the last chapter?

    • easyreadersorg

No, there are seven chapters, as shown in the index.

I enjoyed this story of a struggling painter who falls in love but is thrown out of his humble lodgings by the girl’s unsympathetic father. The only problem was that the volume of the sound was too low. I was trying to share the audio with a friend and I could not make it loud enough. All the other Soundcloud audios are much louder. Can anything be done?
I liked the ending which left me wondering what would happen next.

    • easyreadersorg

That audio was produced many years ago, Zsuzsanna. It is a little quieter than more recent ones, but on my computer is still quite audible even at 50% of the maximum volume.
For anyone wondering, the free sample chapter has the audio link (to the whole story) so you can try before you buy…

  3. Philippa Beasty (verified owner)

I enjoyed the book . I read it several times with and without the audio . The story is engaging – and stands up to several readings.
I thought it was well written and the audio is clear and a good pace.

  4. Tony D’Costa (verified owner)

Yes I agree with the other reviews. It was easy to read and understand.
It was a coincidence that this book should have been introduced on the national “Poppy Day” commemorating the war dead.

  5. Rosemarie Elizabeth Harvey (verified owner)

I loved this book…it was really good for me to go back to this level . I love a good story of thwarted love!!! I think there is a sequel here though???
The audio was a bit low but using headphones made it more accessible.
I t had a really good flow and i really like having the few questions to test my understanding. I think I am improving!
    Thank you Stefania, most enjoyable.

  6. Margrit Stumvoll (verified owner)

The book was very nice to read and is definitely a benefit for those, who want to learn a different language. The only thing, which I find a bit disturbing, is that all these books are very small, only 30 or so pages, I would prefer books about a 100 pages.

    • easyreadersorg

The length of the ebook is specified in the FREE sample chapter, Margrit. We have found as learners that we would prefer to read a short text at our level, then move on soon to a slightly higher level, and so step up, half level by half level, until we have enough confidence to read ‘authentic’ books, which may be many hundreds of pages long. Summary: these ebooks are tools for learners who, hopefully, will move on quickly. Shorter is therefore better.

Very interesting and well read book. thank you

  8. Elsa

I really enjoyed this book, it grabs your attention on the first page and the final page leaves you wanting to know what happens next.
In the past I’ve usually read the book before listening to the audio but now I find that listening to the audio first with the text in front of me enhances my overall comprehension and enjoyment.
The speaker on the audio was very expressive and I’ve listened to this book several times.
    Highly recommended.

  9. Raymond Dragonetti (verified owner)

The book was a real page turner – just what you need to make you want to keep going!
I also got a lot of benefit from using the book to learn from. I read it and reviewed the words that I didn’t know, then read it with the audio then listened to the audio on its own.

  10. Yvonne

Romance. Thwarted love. The ruthless art world. Kept my interest but I did feel a bit sorry for Marianna. I enjoyed the tale, then read it in detail for grammatical constructions and vocab. Most helpful for me as some constructions seemed to be repeated as if to help the learner get a handle on a particular point. Whether this is clever writing for learners or an accident, I have no idea, but it is very helpful. Really good that these books come with audio, too.

  11. Jon (verified owner)

Very interesting story as well as great language practice.

  12. Donna

The story was engaging. The language level is correct. I think these easy readers are a great value . This is the first one I’ve actually bought although I’ve gone through many of the free samples. I like them so much I’m planning on buying the 9 films package soon.

  13. ojfrankel

An uplifting but ultimately heart rending story of a struggling artist, a beautiful young woman, their love for one another and the artist’s eponymous “field of poppies” work of art. The story ends with a bit of a cliff-hanger and I’m intrigued to know what will happen in the sequel, if Stefania has written it. Chissà!

  14. Caroline (verified owner)

I enjoyed reading this book. It has a good story and plenty of new vocabulary. I found it challenging at first, but as I got into the flow of the story, it became easier to understand. The sound files are helpful and I found the audio loud enough. I will be going through the book again to look at new words and constructions, as I always read straight through at first, as I like to immerse myself in the language without distractions.

  15. Anna Kucharska

I enjoyed this story very much, I found the language challenging, a good thing to be pushed.
I did find the audio a bit quiet, not a problem at home, hard to hear in the bus.

  16. Joan Scott

Interesting story with good vocabulary. Please remember some people are hard of hearing and the audio is almost impossible to follow even on highest volume.

  17. Ewa

I love the E-books on this cite and have bouhgt plenty over the year. Ilisten, then I read and finally I listen and read. After each chapter there are questions so that you cab check if you understood. By it:-)

  18. C. Dijkstra

Nice story, interessting to read in Italian. Good for practicing! Thank you

  19. Natasha

I really enjoyed this book. It can be difficult to find interesting A2/B1 reading/learning material that is also aimed at adult audiences. The story was very nice and I was introduced to new words and grammar that suited my level of Italian.

  20. Karen

This book is a step up from Il Ristorante with more challenging text and grammar. The story has a good flow so it is good to go with it and avoid the dictionary until the end. There was enough new vocabulary to be a challenge but not so much to be overwhelming. It is a good read for developing more confidence in the written word and the audio file is perfect for getting the right pronunciation. Having read it twice through and listened to the audio once I will now go through it again a few times and fine tune my understanding. It is hard to find material at the right level and I think this is comfortably B1 study. Thank you for your work. I shall look forward to future books. Well worth the price
