An original Italian easy reader by Francesca Colombo

Meet Anselmo the apothecary, now owner of the most successful pharmacy in Bruges, but formerly of Rome, where he was known as the man to turn to with probems no one else could fix.

A pair of dark-haired horsemen arrive at Anselmo’s home in Belgium having galloped for weeks north through Europe. Their employers, Spanish aristocrats who married into the Borgia family, now find their lives in danger because of a new alliance between the Pope and the French. Will Anselmo help?

Of course, the apothecary can’t refuse a plea for help. Nor the chance to return once more to the court of the Borgias, the setting for his first adventure three years earlier.

(Volume 1 of the Anselmo trilogy is ‘Anselmo e l’omicidio di Giovanni Borgia‘. This is volume 2. Volume 3 is Anselmo e l’avvelenamento del Papa).

  1. Tony Prosser (verified owner)

As with the previous book in the series, quite demanding linguistically but very well written and enjoyable to read and listen to; the audio really adds to its value. I found it slightly easier to understand than its predecessor and it can be read independently. Great value.

I’m really enjoying the Anselmo series. I’ve read the first one and am about half way through this one. I like the way it is set amongst real historical characters and events. I’m at about level B1/B2 but can read this without too much difficulty although it has lots of useful new vocabulary for me. I’ve got the third book as well and am looking forward to that.

  3. Catherine Denton-Clark (verified owner)

Life in lockdown”so busy”…… have only read the first 2 chapters and I love it so far. Interesting subject and nicely written. Wish I could remember all the ‘new words’ but no matter according to Daniel!
